“If you were to tell me that the government were to launch their obesity strategy the same week Team GB won so many medals I would have thought, what a stroke of genius!” If you were to tell me that the government were to launch their obesity strategy the same week Team GB won so many medals I would have thought, what a stroke of genius! At a time when we are on a high as a nation, proud and inspired by these amazing people and incredible teams, what a springboard for us to leap from and make the changes that we need for our children’s health and happiness. Instead, the government launched a limp, watered down strategy, and the leader of the team, the country, our PM wasn't even around! Fair to say it knocked the wind out of me nearly as much as waiting to see if Kenny was disqualified from the cycling Keirin the other night! ![]()
As a mum, a nutritionist with a PhD looking at how food can impact heart disease and diabetes risk, who has followed every step of the journey from the scientific research, to its independent review to this, the launch of the strategy, I have had to take to the blog the get my frustration out! Unfortunately a run isn’t an option tonight as I’m 7.5 months pregnant, and I dare not have the amount of chocolate I’m craving, well maybe just a little bit! And so I ask myself, what would those athletes competing for Team GB do if they felt this level of disappointment? From watching various interviews I would say, they’d suck it up, train harder, work together more and come back stronger, win a gold or two and celebrate together! Thank you Theresa May and Team GB, together you have given me such a bolt of electricity from one massive + to - which I can channel into Live It Up Ventures Ltd; our start up business, built to connect communities, families, ideas and people to boost our health and happiness together. We will work with this obesity strategy, with the kids, adults and business partners in local communities so we can all make happier, healthier choices much more easily. When I asked Iain, my husband and Live It Up Ventures teammate, the other night, what do you reckon Laura Trott and Jason Kenny are saying to themselves this morning after their 6 gold medals? I have put in my calendar to ask us the very same question this time four years from now, 18th August 2020. Follow our progress on www.liveitup.ventures Our training plan/ business plan is in place and we’ll be sharing our efforts, experimentation and events with you as we go.
